June started out with a bang for hubby and I! Not only are we in deep packing to move to Oklahoma soon, but we had a big birthday to celebrate! My dear FIL turned 80 this month, and the family decided to treat him to an Alaskan cruise! He likes to travel, so 4 of his kids, 2 with spouses, and 2 grands joined him! We sailed on Holland America’s Eurodam for one week.
I loved every minute of it! We stopped in four ports. Juneau was first
, where we were able to visit a sled dog camp for summer training! My favorite stop! We rode behind a team of 18 dogs for about 5 mins. On clay, of course! Our sled held 6 people!
, and was driven by a great trainer. The highlight of the trip was holding the 7 wk. old sled dog puppies for a bit! I fell in love with one, but their mama kept a close eye on us! Second stop was Sitka, where we toured a bear rescue site, an eagle rehabilitation, and a marine and salmon site. Learned so much about Alaska’s wildlife and truly enjoyed it all! Glacier National Park is only accessible by boat or air, so our Captain took the ship through it so people could see the wildlife and glaciers! Three large glaciers and several animals, bears, eagles, sea lions, otters were out in the open for us to enjoy in their natural habitats! Got a pic of one of the glaciers, but not photographer enough to get wildlife, sorry!
Ketchikan was our next stop! Toured totem pole parks and saw the totem archives there! Great stories! Fascinating stuff!
. Onto Victoria, B.C., for only a short few hours in Butchart Gardens. We walked through the rose garden and the gift shop primarily, but there were so many other gardens. It is huge, lovely, and a flower person’s dream! [
Our time on the vacation went fast, but I can’t think of a way it could have been more enjoyable! Only gained 5 lbs. too! Got my step goal in everyday and met some sweet people! We were blessed! Now to get back to real life....
