Summer Solstice: A Blog on the Longest Day of the Year

Friday, June 21, 2019

I don't blog much.
I have great ideas for blogs quite frequently. My wisdoms are all formulated in my head, but they never make it to paper.

I'm so hung up on having something relevant to say, relevant to SparkPeople, but maybe I'll just babble a little bit instead.

What's relevant to SparkPeople anyway? What we eat, how we exercise? Yes and no. Actually SparkPeople is much more than food and exercise. Our lives are related to SparkPeople. We probably all came here to lose weight and then discovered that it's about so much more. How we feel, how we act, how food makes us feel, our energy levels, our relationships, our happiness levels, how we feel in our own skin, what we do on a daily basis to achieve our goals, to live the life we want to live.

Today is summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It's just past 9 pm and it's starting to get dark. We're in the South, So if you're further north it will be light much longer. Summer solstice makes me sad. Though it marks the beginning of summer, and the hot humid months of July, August, and September are still ahead, it also means that days are beginning to get shorter. I live for sunshine and warm temperatures.

It's been a busy year for me. My job has me traveling.
This year, so far, I've been to Detroit and Philly (twice), Hartford CT (3 times), Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh. It's all work and not a lot of play though. Airport, office, hotel, and back home. I do enjoy those trips nonetheless. They're each between 2 and 5 days and never on weekends.

I've been viewing my world from above 30,000 feet through an airplane window a lot.
Here is one of my favorites - sunset on my way to Detroit.

I'm off to Phoenix on Monday. Funny thing - all winter they've been sending me up and down the East Coast and to the Midwest. I learned what a snow squall is, and I had to buy a serious winter coat. Now Phoenix at the end of June! Probably the only place where it's hotter than here. I'll be taking my bathing suit :).

Do I have the perfect swim suit body? No! Are you kidding me?!? I could absolutely stand to lose a couple of pounds, and my thighs will NEVER be swim suit ready. But hey, who cares? Life needs to be lived to the fullest. Every beautiful moment of it!
Enjoy life and keep sparking!

We are just beginning Summer so it's hard to think that really means the days are now starting to shorten.
Don't worry about swimsuit ready. When I'm on vacation, I always say, "I will never see any of them again," so I am not going to let what they think bother me. Enjoy your swim.
Sometimes the best blogs happen when we just "babble a bit." I've surprised myself a few times when a blog takes on a life of it's own and goes somewhere I hadn't planned at all. It's interesting to share in your day.

Babbling blogs are great! A blog doesn't always have to be relevant. You never know what could be helpful to someone else. So please, babble away! And share more travel pics.

First off, I so agree with the writing Time is like a river, glad you shared it with us.
We have a pool outdoors in our senior park, love going there as much as possible. I too do not have the perfect body, far from one, that doesn't stop me from going and enjoying time in the pool. It is easy on the joints and it's fun being with the neighbors from around our park.

Wow, Kendra, that's a lot of travel! With all the wild weather these days, too, I imagine you've been subject to a few delays. Personally, I'm lonely when I stay alone at hotels, but I guess if it's for your job, you can do some work in the hotel room and not feel as adrift as I usually do. And taking your swimsuit to Phoenix--great attitude! Get some fitness in, focusing on the cool blue water and forgetting about how you think you look. That's good!

Lovely view out the plane window! Good photo!

I, too, view SP as so much more than about nutrition and fitness. I'm here for the camaraderie, and I'm glad I met you here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I always head for the pool when there is one, and no I don't have a great body. Most of the time I just fit right in, there are very few perfect bodies! A nice wrap over my suit gets me through the hotel hallways.

Have a safe journey and emoticon
