June 20, 2019 A CORRUPT HEART
We have all heard of or seen those in the news who have done wrong things and participated in crooked dealings. We know there are people with corrupt hearts whose actions are evil and they don’t seem to care that they are doing wrong. A person with a corrupt heart does wrong and doesn’t care who it hurts. They go down a path of wrongdoing and will take down anyone who gets in their way just to get what they want.
We may not have a corrupt heart but we do need to examine our hearts to ensure we don’t have any inkling of desire to do wrong. We need to remember just a small amount of evil in our hearts can spread into something corrupt very quickly. If we any amount of corruption in our hearts, God wants to forgive us and help us turn from our temptations and do what is right.
Psalm 53:1 “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!” (NLT)
1. Write the actions of those with corrupt hearts.
2. List things you may have done in the past that were wrong.
3. Turn to God and seek His forgiveness for any wrongdoing.
4. Pray for those with corrupt hearts that they may turn from sin and turn to God.
Dear Lord, we pray You will reveal to us anything in our hearts that could be defined as corrupt. We may have some hidden desires to do wrong. We may have started down a wrong path with someone whose intentions are not right. We may have spoken words that are not good and pure. Show us today where we can improve in our thoughts, words and actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
A corrupt heart can lead us down a path of wrongdoing that will hurt us and others.
Ecclesiastes 7:7 “Extortion turns wise people into fools, and bribes corrupt the heart.” (NLT)
Those who choose to do wrong and whose hearts are corrupt will one day be judged by God.
Titus 1:15 “Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.” (NLT)
We can’t succeed doing the will of God if our hearts are corrupt from doing evil.
Proverbs 17:20 “One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.” (NIV)
