SPARK PEOPLE - A COMMUNITY OF REDWOOD TREES
Wednesday, June 19, 2019
This is my first blog, mainly because I am a very private person and sharing is difficult, but since joining this February I have learned what it means to be part of this lovely community.
The other day I was thinking back about living in San Francisco and visiting the Redwood Forest in northern California. Those magnificent trees grow between 300-360+ ft., but their roots are relatively shallow. There is no tap root to anchor them deep into the earth as the roots go down only 6-12 feet; however, these trees rarely fall over. They withstand strong winds, storms, and prolonged flooding.
So, what is the secret of the redwood? Their strength lies in the roots stretching outward up to 50 ft., intertwining their roots with the roots of the other trees in the grove just below the surface of the ground.
To me, the SP community reminds me of these beautiful majestic giants. Alone we are vulnerable and can easily fall. There is no single answer that works for everyone, because that’s not how it works, but unity is the difference, being committed to listen, acknowledge and celebrate each other.
