What will YOU Do on Your Summer Vacation?????

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Looks like I'll have a lot of things on my plate for the next month or so. Thankfully all good things, but I will have to take some time to plan ahead for surprises in my routine.

I'm going to visit friends and family for most of July. I'm anticipating lots of cookouts, fireworks and restaurants! I'll have to be prepared for the fact that I'll be staying with childhood friends and I'll be visiting with family members.

In the past, most of these visits have centered around food! I'll have to be prepared. Maybe eat a salad BEFORE my meeting with friends/family at a restaurant! Same thing with cookouts... I don't want to be hungry when I arrive because I may be tempted to overeat.

I think the main idea is to avoid being hungry. That's usually when I'll put too much on my plate.

Any ideas for staying on track? . . . a 3 week vacation can really upset the proverbial apple cart. That's it! Maybe I'll carry a few apples in my purse! emoticon

Thanks everybody for the great suggestions. Soooo, it seems the consensus is to avoid being too hungry, which will stop overeating. This vacation starts July 2nd and lasts 3 weeks. I'll be looking for support every day! With your help, I'll make good choices.

I think you’re right on target with not letting yourself get too hungry.

My beau and I are going to Thunder Bay, Ontario (we live in Michigan) for vacation. I plan on bringing plenty of healthy snacks, bottled water (we are driving - 13 hours!) and being prepared to look up restaurants on the WW app (there are lots of apps that list restaurant calories - most of their websites do too) before I order. We've taken some long weekends already and this has worked out well to stay on track!

It sounds like you will have a fun time. My only thought is to try to make healthy choices and have a decision made at each place as to whether or not you will eat a special treat.

Great idea to have a salad before you meet with friends at a restaurant.

I think it's important to make a plan for yourself and set a few rules of thumb before you go on vacation. ANY plan is better than no plan. Maybe decide that you will not try to lose weight but set some rules on how much you intend to indulge, how often, wat foods etcetera. Allow yourself treats but just not go overboard. That worked well for me in the past when I did that.

You could make a rule to eat the healthiest foods always FIRST, so first have a serving of vegetables or fruit or beans BEFORE you have other less healthy foods.

It helps me to keep track (in a notebook or my cell phone) of whether / how many times I managed to stick to my rules so I get a feeling of pride and accomplishment which helps me to feel good instead of guilty over just eating anything in sight!

Always have nuts and healthy crackers and / or indeed fruit like apples or tangerines and such in your bag so you can indeed prevent getting too hungry.
