We are doing a Bible Study on our Team " Women Weight Warriors of God" and it is about
"Renewing Your Mind"... well, one of the items the Lord has shown me that I need to work on is procrastination... yes, I am not proud to admit that, however I am thankful that after many excuses, and talking to the Lord, I am not thankful I have been a procrastinator, although I must admit now that I have faced the truth, I feel so much freedom in working on this area with the help of the Lord, and I do realize I must do my part, so I have now rolled up my sleeves and am diving in..
One of the things I am learning is all about excuses... Do you realize how many different topics people use so many excuses for … These are some common things a Christian might make excuses for :
Sharing their Faith
Reading the Bible
Blaming others for their sin, instead of taking responsibility
Eating habits - now this is one that I could probably have written a book on .. here are just some I have used.. How about you ? Do you recognize any of these ?
I can't do it - I have bad genes - I'm too tired - I've failed before- I hate working out - No will power - I'll do later - it's too early - I was up too late- It's too hot - It's too cold - It's raining - It's too late - I will start my diet on Monday - and I'm sure if I took more time, the excuses could go on for a long time.
One thing I truly have learned that excuses do not give results and at this point in my life, I want results much more than more excuses..
Here are just a few quotes about excuses..
" Don't give in to excuses that keep you from really living the best life God has for you" Joyce Meyer
" Be stronger than your excuses" unknown"
" He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else" Benjamin Franklin
Romans 3:19 (NLT) " Obviously the law applies to those whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuse, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God."
There are so many people in the Old Testament that used so many excuses for different reasons and each time they did, the outcome was not good.. they missed so many blessings by using excuses not to obey God.
One reality I have realized is that there is not a reason for an excuse.. There is a difference between reasons and excuses..
The definition of reason is : a cause, , explanation, or justification for an action or event.
The definition of excuse is : attempt to lessen the blame attaching to ( a fault or offense ); seek to defend or justify.
So, I have decided after much prayer, and study, that making excuses usually lead to sin. There are so many times in life that you will hear excuses like " no one is perfect" from someone who wants to justify rebellion towards God's Word.
We are each one responsible for our own lives.. Another way we make excuses is when we have some fear of doing something, especially afraid to do God's will.
If you are sure that God told you to do something don't be afraid to do it because He is by your side to help you . If that is truly His will for your life, it will be accomplished.
It is my desire to daily examine myself and ask this question : Am I making any excuses? Then, ask the Lord to let me see the truth so I can surrender these things to Him.
Proverbs 6:4 (NLT) " Don't put it off; do it now ! Don't rest until you do ."
" BE STRONGER THAN YOUR STRONGEST EXCUSE "
Hugs and Prayers,
