5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

Greetings

Mel Robbins has a best-selling book, The 5 Second Rule, which has changed many people's lives. I've adopted it also and have sticky notes around my house saying ... 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.

She says our subconscious mind is running the show. It doesn't like change. It doesn't want us to get up off the sofa and empty the dishwasher. It doesn't want us to pick up our hand weights and do some strength training. It wants to keep everything just the way it is and has been in our lives . For me it's been 65 years.

So during my BIGGEST LOSER Summer Challenge on the Purple pegasus team, I'm going to study procrastination.

Mel says I am never going to feel like doing it ... clean the house , excercise, go to the gym, eat healthy. My subconscious brain will always say.. no you are fine right where you are. You deserve to sit here and watch this TV show with a bowl of Rocky Road ice cream.

I am to stop dreaming of what I want and start doing. There's no Cavalry coming to save me ..no one's coming. I have to save myself. My goals have just been that, goals on a piece of paper, which my subconscious is happy to keep me right where I am, on a piece of paper.

Mel says the only way to change procrastination is to just get up and do it. If you have problems with getting up, use your conscious mind to count down from 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 and get up and do something even for 5 minutes.

Science now says that the subconscious brain which runs the show all the time, Lets you stay in your comfort zone all the time watching TV and eating ice cream, operates with 400 million bits. While your poor little conscious mind, which is the one trying to make the changes, is only 40 million bits. whoa. How can I ever hope to change .Those odds are impossible.

But I can change. I guess it's kind of like David and Goliath. Okay, I'll count backwards from 5 and grab the remote to turn off the TV. I'll count backwards from 5 and take the ice cream and put it back in the freezer. I'll count backwards from 5 and since I'm up anyway, I'll go empty the dishwasher.
