Good results eating plant based diet

Friday, June 07, 2019

My husband had a physical yesterday with good news. He'd had some typical issues in the past. High cholesterol, borderline high sugar, and elevated liver enzymes. His current blood test shows that all of these issues are resolved now. He was very happy, and very grateful that we changed our eating habits about a year and a half ago. We eliminated most sugar and processed foods, and eat primarily a plant based diet. Sometimes we have a burger on a weekend, and we still eat Egg Beaters, maybe twice a week, but the bulk of our diet is whole plant food.

I've been walking during my breaks and snapping pictures with my phone:

My workplace is tucked away and surrounded by woods. I have been trying to more actively take charge of myself and my self care, with good results. I saw that I was eating too frequently, so instead of punishing myself with eliminating snacks, I replaced them with lots of raw vegetables and fruit. One handful of nuts. Added a vegan protein shake for afternoon hungries. Then I started tapering off on "freestyle snacking". Particularly on the weekends, when I am typically stressing over not getting enough done. I decided to cut myself a big break on caring for my home, too. Have followed FlyLady, the housework guru, for years but not embraced her philosophy as a lifestyle. Jump in, get something done, and then carry on. It doesn't have to be perfect. Nothing is. And it is important to plan for some down time. Not work, work, avoid work, work...

I remember a couple of years ago at my heaviest feeling defeated because I couldn't go "on a diet", which equates torture for me. I think it's really a matter of working with rather than against yourself.

Wow, my husband was very pleased with his test results. Me, too!!

So great to read this. Yay, you and your husband, both! So great that you are focusing on down time to restore and replenish.

I'm really inspired by your snacking changes and encouraged to follow suit. May I ask what's going into your smoothies?

I follow FLYlady and appreciate her philosophy of "you can do anything for 10 minutes". Yes! It gets the momentum going. Some days might not get beyond that 10 minutes, but more often than not, now, I do!

    Good job.
