Tonight my husband and I went for a walk to look for the boat launch, turns out it's less than a five minute walk from our front door. The spot will be great for getting a canoe into the water, there's no motors allowed. I watched the fly fishermen and noticed a older couple sitting down the path a bit. They seemed quite gleeful about something so we wandered over to say hi. They had spotted a beaver jumping in and out of the water and had been taking photos and were so excited about seeing their first beaver ever. I asked if they were from around here, no, they were visiting family. I smiled and watched the "beaver" with them, I didn't have the heart to tell them it was a muskrat.
From there we walked down another path and found a young man just sitting on the bank watching the swallows dive for the bugs over the water. I asked him if he was with the older couple and he said yes. He seemed pretty interested about the birds, I looked at him, I looked at the "swallows". Looked at him again, I had to do it, "You know those are bats right?" Swallows come out during the day. He jumped up so fast, "Those are real bats? Do they attack people?"
I assured him they just wanted the mosquitoes and he could continue to watch them without being disturbed. He got excited about that and started taking photos.
Life has changed so quickly for us. Our healthy lifestyle has resurfaced. Dinners are lots of dark green veggies and lean meats. Potatoes and breads have vanished again from our home. Snacks of watermelon and grapes fill our fridge again. The first phase of the renovations are almost complete, we even have walls up around our bathroom now. No flooring, but walls are a great start. Walks and runs are becoming part of our lives again, taking the time to enjoy the neighbourhood. It's so calm at night sleep comes easy.
Best move ever.
