In the groove (hopefully)

Friday, May 24, 2019

I am not a born runner by any stretch of the imagination. I was on the track and field team in high school. I did shot put. During warm up when we had to run on the track I goofed around and did not run.

I few years ago I decided that I wanted to give it a try. I was never very good but I entered a few races and always finished. I even did a Ragnar Relay race.

Then I just quit. I quit everything. Tracking food, trying to stay away from sweets, and of course exercise of any kind. I went from 174 pounds to 314 almost instantly it seemed.

Last May I decided I'd had enough and started all over again. I tracked like crazy but still didn't do much in the way of exercise. Then it got cold and then snowy and then muddy. Good excuses right!?

Spring is finally here and so is my second chance. Or maybe my third or fourth, oh well, whose counting. I've started seriously walking. Not just 10 minutes just to say I did it but really trying to cover some distance and increasing my pace. I told myself, gave myself permission not to run this time. Running is not for me and I suck at it so why torture myself?!

For the last 3 days I've been running the last half of my course! I find that I just can't help myself. Between the music's pace and trying to increase my own pace, my competitive streak takes over and I must run. I really hate running!!

Right now half of me says "ok but tomorrow you don't have to run" and the other half is saying "hey, you did it 3 days in a row, how about 4?"

I am not a runner and will never be one but hey, do what feels good at the moment!

So happy that you are walking daily. Fantastic that you are jogging for home (that's what I call it!) and having FUN! May just have to spread it out to every other day jogging, your body will actually get stronger faster, and we gotta keep your streak going now! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had to laugh out loud where you said that you just couldn't help but run! Each new day is a new chance; good on you for taking advantage of yours. Keep up the great job!
