Doctors and Women

Friday, May 24, 2019

I was reminded again today that doctors don't always take women seriously. It's not just male doctors; I've had it happen with female doctors. This makes me sad, as my personal experiences involved my Mom (with dementia) and my infant granddaughter as well as myself.

These experiences have taught me some things. I learned to educate myself. The time to start this is BEFORE you go to an appointment. I have a notebook that I take with me with questions I have and I write what the doctors say. People are human; we forget things at times.

Don't be afraid to SPEAK UP. I found speaking up was hard at first. Was I questioning authority? Coming across wrong? But...we are paying them to take care of us! We can all do this; then, maybe things will get better.
