I want to let everyone know that I have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes now. I am now testing my blood sugars 2x a day. I have to make some changes. I am going to start with portion control since that is where I fail the most. I need to watch how much I eat and control how much protein and carbs as well. So I have asked my mom to help me out with this area. I am also going, to be honest with you here I already had two high reading which means I need to watch portions more closely. It needs to start right now. Can I have someone keep an eye on me on here by checking up on me?

    emoticon Lord and God of all, It seems overwhelming to add another chronic condition, but if brought under control she will feel better with more energy. Help my sister to gather the pieces of her health conditions and organize them into a pattern that works for her health and Your Glory. Amen

    Check out the Pre-diabetic Spark team. They have lots of info on food etc. I am not diabetic but enjoy reading all their articles, as my mother was diabetic. emoticon

    You definitely should consider keeping a food journal -- what you're eating, how much, what time, how you're feeling @ the time and what your blood sugar is. That will help you determine a pattern. That makes it a bit easier to formulate a plan.

    Are you on any meds for your blood sugar? What is your A1C? That gives you an idea of what your blood sugars are over a 3 mth. period of time.

    It's not an easy job, but it can be done.

    You can do this. Something I find helpful in portion control is using special dishes. If a portion is 1/2 cup, it goes in a cute little bowl with a cat face on it. My favorite dinner plate is a Japanese lusterware one a friend gave me. It’s smaller than a normal dinner plate so it looks full with less and makes me think of my generous friend. The other big part of portion control for me is determining not to eat anything straight from the bag/box/carton/can, but to measure a portion onto a dish, close up the food, and put it away. Otherwise, everyone here knows how easy it is to OD on whatever you’re eating. Wishing you success in getting your numbers down.
