mental health is important to me and should be to everyone. There is not one family that hasnt been touched by someone struggling with one issue or snother. I personally struggle with depression and anxiety and have been on medication for years. For the most part it is under control but there are triggers. Espescially winter. part of my depression is Seasonal affective disorder which can be treated with a SAD light and Vitamin D which tricks your brain into thinking theres more sun light. The anxiety or panic attacks are random and can come out of no where my heart flip flops and I feel like I shouldnt be her. Im not sure where I should be but not here. It usually only lasts a few minutes snd I can breathe through it but increased stress means increased anxiety. I worked in mental health nursing for 10 years mostly because I can relate fairly well. Its hard to see the people in denial fighting treatment, blaming others for their issues, lashing outhurting others, self destruction in other ways. There are other areas of mental health that id like to learn more about like schizophrenia. As I said theres not one person not touched by someone they know not struggling with a mental health issue. Be supportive any way you can.

Mental health issues definitely run in families. My mom had depression, agoraphobia, and panic attacks, I take medicine for depression (and when I was in PA I had SAD - not since I’ve been in Florida though!) My son has ADHD and anxiety, which led to his addictions. It is so important to be aware of people’s challenges and encourage them to get the help they need. That’s wonderful that you went into a profession to help those with mental health issues, and that you are interested in learning more.

    Agreed!
My daughter had panic attacks and is seeing a psychologist and on medicine for it. She went through the suicidal thoughts and we put her in a rehab for that. She came out better but still with problems. But we're working on it! And support is so important!

You're right that people should be supportive any way they can.

Mental health is so important to talk about. I think our society is becoming a little more supportive and there’s much less stigma than there has been in the past. I also have SAD and every year I am amazed I survive the winter.
