So we had our granddaughter yesterday, since it was no school due to Good Friday... lol and guess what !? We wore her out! That never happens; so when we planned the day we made sure to keep her busy. Since yard work was on the agenda it wasn't hard.
She is 7 now and can do quite a bit. She ended up helping a neighbor catching his runaway puppy as well.
However, what was the most fun and actually wore her out was the makeshift trampoline. I had a lot of branches to move from trees we cut down last year. I have three composting sections on the front yard and build them with pallets. One of them is now full and we blocked it off, so it can do its thing, the second part and by far larger is where I collect the branches and fallen wood from our oaks. We let them sit and break down, use them in the bottom of new plant-beds (lasagna gardening) and break off some for starter firewood. we also put some in a chipper for wood mulch on the walkways.
So we're piling all that in the large section. It came to nearly 6 feet tall and about 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. I tossed a flat board on top and told Aspen, (our granddaughter) to climb up and jump on it. She was up to the challenge. .. landed in the pile twice and finely compacted the pile down to 4 feet. So we loaded it again with more branches and she went to town again. Had a lot of fun.
She helped weed, rake the leaves, load them and take them around to the other side of the property where we use them as leaf mulch to keep the weeds down.
Then we tackled the end of the patio. We removed the boulders that I had there... biggest tripping hazard ever and removed the crabgrass that snug in there. Then I filled the area with gravel... courtesy of all our neighbors that live above us, as the rain washes it down to our driveway; and finished it up with square pavers set low to match the patio... Viola no more tripping for me!
Our granddaughter had talked us into burgers for lunch, so when we got to our local burger place it was packed, holiday weekend and all... by the time we got our food our grand-daughter was ready to fall asleep in her fries. It didn't surprise us one bit when she barely ate any of it. We took her home and put her to bed without a word of protest. Then it was night, night for the next 2 hours when her daddy came to get her. Such a busy day... and so much fun!
