An Update on My Dad
Tuesday, April 16, 2019
My poor Dad. I tried calling him yesterday but kept getting a busy signal. I finally got to talk to him tonight and he sounds really... well... old. He couldn't get out of bed this morning and finally fell out and it took him 15 minutes to get off the floor. Poor guy. He's talking about going into a home, but I have plans. I saw an add for Bright Star Home Health Care several years ago and had it in the back of my mind. I did some research when I got off the phone and they're still around and quite a big agency. I emailed them and I hope they'll contact me tomorrow. I'll call them if I don't hear from them. I'm hoping they can come out to Dad's house on Friday and meet with him and me. My Dad wants me to drive over Thursday evening so I can take him to the doctor's Friday afternoon, so of course I said yes. I'm hoping if Bright Star can also meet us on Friday and he likes them that we can get them going to help him out either next weekend or next week. They will do things like cook, clean, take him to the store and doctor's, help him get dressed, etc. He can still do some things for himself but it's getting to be less and less. So we'll see what they say tomorrow. I haven't told Dad about this but I think he'll like the option. I figure it will cost just as much to have in-home care as for him to be in a home and he'll be much more comfortable and happy if he's still at his house. Fingers crossed-- prayers said-- candles lit!
Needless to say, after I got off the phone with my Dad I didn't get too much homework done. I'm too distracted right now. I did get two chapters read today and I logged an hour and a half of time on my Business Ethics class site. I think that's good enough for today. No walk today, as it rained in the afternoon. I did get A LOT of cooking done today. I made pancakes for breakfast (sweet potato with chocolate sauce), smashed chickpea and avocado spread for sandwiches for lunch, and lentil soup for dinner. The soup is currently simmering on the stove and will be done in an hour and a half.
1) Discussion board for Bus. Ethics and log one hour of time; the two exams, the mini case, and the discussion board for Human Resources; Get through at least three things for Financial Statement Analysis, and read for Cost Accounting.
2) Get to church in the evening.
Today I'm Grateful For...
1) That in-home care is even an option. I don't think it existed when my grandparents were going downhill.
2) That we got a little rain today here.
3) That I have a big pot of lentil soup on the stove.
