Goals & Gratitude 4/14/19

I was out of town this weekend at the Women's Lenten Retreat sponsored by the archdiocese this weekend. It was wonderful. Father George gave up a lovely series of talks on Friday and Saturday on the meaning behind some of the Holy Week services. I sat and did needlepoint while I listened. I absorb much more when my hands are working, though I do kinda wish I had taken some notes. But he gave me much to ponder. Fr. David, who is the women's spiritual adviser and hears all of our confessions all weekend, gave a short homily after vespers Saturday night and then again during church today. He's very good to listen to- short but sweet homilies. I would like to go visit his church in Washington state one day. I also had a wonderful time seeing all the ladies. We represented 14 different churches from central California down to San Diego. Many of the ladies I see only at this retreat, so it was nice to catch up with people and make some new friends. I carpooled with a friend from church and when we drove home we talked about different recipes to try this week. I have an idea now of what I want to cook, and she's going to email me some new recipes.
In eating and fitness news, I think I did pretty good this weekend. On Friday evening I loaded up on salads and only went back for seconds on salads, not the main dish. I did eat two cookies on Friday, but I only had one dessert and no seconds at all on Saturday. I did eat bread rolls for several meals which is out of character for me as I'm not a big bread person, but they seemed to go well with the meals. I also got in a good 45 minutes walk on Saturday morning with my roommate. We walked downhill from the camp to the main road and then walked back up the hill. I didn't walk the entire hill-- I was really out of breath by the time we reached the main camp. So I stopped and my friend continued up to the top of camp. It was an excellent workout. I was talking to her today and she said she's lost 72 lbs. in 3 years, or about a half pound a week. She looks amazing now. I'm really motivated by her to keep up my own weight loss journey, and I do know what I need to do. I need to keep exercising and track my food and no more night time eating.
My goals for this week are no more night time eating and to go back to the gym. I usually go to the park to walk, but I do have a gym membership. I would like to go and try the recumbent bike since that's something a lot of my friends here at SP do. I've never done it before so I want to try it. Also, I need to do more strength training. My goals is to do 2 days per week at the gym so that I get two good strength training sessions in. I'l report back on these goals later this week.
1) Exercise, either a walk in the park or at the gym.
2) Plan my meals for the week and go to the grocery store.
3) Finish up my Cost Accounting homework that is due tomorrow night and read for Business Ethics and Human Resources. Monday is always a heavy reading day.
Today I'm Grateful For...
1) A wonderful weekend.
2) That I stuck (basically) to my nutrition and fitness goals this weekend.
3) That we got home nice and early from the retreat.
