Podiatrist Visit

Friday, April 12, 2019

So I finally saw the podiatrist today. I have what he calls severe osteoarthritis in both feet. I also pronate when I walk. My biggest problem is muscle and joints. My feet roll out too much which causes my toes to curl to try to correct. I have bunions on both feet but he isn't recommending surgery. All of my toes are considered hammer toes.
In short, I have to stop wearing sandals completely and wear athletic shoes with a stiff heel cup area and either mesh or fabric top that lace up.
In some ways, it is the best news of no surgery; on the other hand no more cute shoes for me.
He has prescribed an anti-inflammatory medication. I am to ice twice a day. I need to use toe spaces to help my big toes and bunion splints at night.
Right now I feel old.
Good news is that even though I have been diabetic for 25 years, I have no nerve damage.

I gave up sandals years ago because of my bunions and
now all I wear are good athletic shoes, except low slip on
pumps for church. Less pain and more comfort.

So thankful you don’t have any nerve damage. I can’t wear the cute sandals for a long period of time. I did have foot surgery several years ago and I’m not sure I ever want to have it again! I know what you mean, retain things sure make me feel old too! emoticon

Sounds like your feet aren't up to walking a lot. My DH has been diabetic for 31 years and is having trouble with his feet now as well. Bunions and the beginning of what could amount to be ulcers.

Glad to hear you have no nerve damage and if you follow your podiatrists advice and wear those special shoes you will find a big difference in how your feet feel. Take care of your feet and they will take you places!

Sandler’s are cute but the shoes will save your feet and back! I am glad you are taking care of yourself!
