If you know anything about CrossFitters, we tend to be loyal to our boxes/gyms. I've been a member of a gym for four years now, but I just have been able to make it consistentely (like went a couple of times in January and haven't been since). My job has sucked up my life and I've been in a not so good place because of it. My husband has started asking that I cancel my membership, but I just couldn't let it go (CrossFit has been a huge part of my 40s).
This school year alone, I have gained 30 pounds. I've been stress eating, drinking, munching. Like I said...not in a good place. I am emotionally spent after spending a day working with emotionally explosive students, while also trying to actually teach. Everyday, I drive past a CrossFit gym, but it wasn't my gym. It wasn't the gym I learned to do handstand push-ups in. It wasn't the gym I lost 30 pounds in (which I've gained back, plus some)!
Last Saturday, my husband asked if I've been to the gym this month. I replied I'll go Monday (because Monday is always the day). He told me he was not going to budget the gym anymore and I'll have to figure it out (we've paid almost $2,000 for 2 years of inconsistent use). Driving home Monday and not going to the gym, I realized this is ridiculous. I still need CrossFit, but my original gym just didn't fit in my schedule anymore. So I looked up the gym I drive by every day. It is exactly 0.6 miles from my school. It is $25 more a month, but I can actually get there. So I talked it over with my hubby and he said we can swing anything...as long as I show up!
Tuesday after school I check out the facilities and talked with the owner. She recommended I try out a workout. Wednesday, I showed up and worked out. The members sold me. I was talking with couple of the guys and explained that I've done the before, I used to compete...blah, blah, blah, but I am obviously nowhere near in shape for that now. He said, who cares. You are here and this is a judgement free zone. Just come back tomorrow and do it again.
I joined the gym! I've worked out Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I'm sore as hell and love it! Thursdays I run a robotics club and had a parent pick up their student 40 minutes late and made the 5:30 class with 5 minutes to spare!!! I can't wait to see what next week will look like. I'm breaking up with my old gym tomorrow. Taking the risk and making a big change has paid off!! I woke up this morning, ready to face the day. The last few Saturdays, I didn't even want to get out of bed.
