I joined my friends Hanne and Barbara for a lovely hike in the snow at Shevlin Park. We brought our skis, but the snow conditions were not great for skiing. Instead we put on our YakTrax (like tire chains for boots) and hiked on a snowshoe trail along the creek. The weather was lovely, sunny for most of our hike, but with occasional snow flutters.
The Parks department plans to remove the covered bridge in the spring, so we stopped to enjoy the views. The bridge is apparently damaged at the foundation. It was built by the Disney Corporation for a scene in a 1963 movie called Homeward Bound (about pets trying to get home). It was never intended to be a permanent structure.
I am really glad I got out for a hike. In this deep snow, we couldn’t go fast or very far. But it felt great to exercise with friends in a beautiful location. And it was a real workout!
You hit it right on the head, Alison...............Friends, exercise, great scenery............it doesn't get any better. I have the movie Homeward Bound and watch it with the girls (it is one of their favorites). I will look for the covered bridge and then show them your picture. It's too bad that they didn't keep it up. I love covered bridges.
Good for Hanne................what a trooper. 273 days ago
