Progress, goals and the SHOCKER!

So this week I hit my 15 pound weight loss mark. Yippee.

Which brings me to my upcoming weight loss goals. The next goal I am trying to hit is my 5 lb loss for the month of February - which is a mere 1.4 pounds away. My other goal which is a little bit further down the road would be my 10% weight loss which is 6 pounds away. Yippee! That one is seeming like I actually may obtain it! I am so excited about that! It really helps me keep my focus when a goal feels like it is within reach. 21.6 pounds seemed so far away when I started this journey!

Food goals.... just keep watching those portion sizes, counting those calories.... and Coke Zero intake. I have decided that for Lent I am going to pass on the Coke Zero. Maybe after 40 days without it I may decide to give it up. For now, just trying to cut it back and drink more water.

Exercise goals .... Walk, walk, walk. I have managed to walk a mile or more at a 15 minute mile pace with a 4% incline for 46 consecutive days on the treadmill. Honesty check. No, I really haven't. I did miss two days. One day was during the winter storm and I shoveled a lot of heavy snow - twice for an hour each time! I skipped the treadmill that day because my back hurt - but I picked up an extra mile the next day to hopefully make up for it. The other day was during vacation when there was no treadmill available, but I walked outdoors. I'm sure my pace was slower, but I walked longer. So I am cutting myself slack with those.

The plan is to up the distance to 1.33 mile (20 minutes) at the same incline pace once I reach the 50 day mark. I also have been breaking it up a bit by adding a minute of running every 5 minutes of walking. I also plan to bring in strength training beginning Monday by doing some of the spark videos.

So what is the SHOCKER? Well, when I began this journey I took those before pictures in my workout bra and capris. That wasn't really a shocker, that is me, I just keep me under wraps - lots of layers, baggy clothes, you know how we do!

While cleaning a drawer, I found a tape measure. I am not a seamstress. I don't usually use my tape measure. Then that nagging question popped into my head. Just how big am I? I haven't taken my measurements in quite some time. I decided to face my truth. After all, self honesty is vital Then I struggled with do I really want to share this with my fellow Sparkers? Well, time to quit hiding and pretending. My waist was a whopping 41 3/4 inches! What? When did that happen?

Silly me says it happened when jeggings and stretchy pants came into style and I no longer had to squeeze in those waistband pants. Reality, its the excessive carbs, the bread, the pizza, the chips, the candy, the cookies, the diet soda and lack of exercise.

So now that I have faced that reality. Holy Moe - that was a bit hard to swallow. My goal is to see that waist get below 40 inches by the end of March. I'm not sure if that is even a realistic goal. However, I am going to work on it! I have a long way to go to reach that under 30 inch waist that is recommended for good health!

And so this journey goes, riding high one day with a 15 pound weight loss and shot down with a 41 3/4 inch waist the next day. Not letting that sidetrack me. I got places to go and things to do! I'm gonna do some work!!!

    That chart doesn't look very realistic to me. Better choice would be a waist to hip ratio.

    I'm not sure how realistic your chart is, Barb. At a glance I see that I would fall into overweight...perhaps obese and I am neither. In fact, I am just where I should be for BMI and and just a tad on the high end for body fat composition. We all have goals and progress to make but striving for "model proportions" is not healthy.

    As nsettling as measuring was, now you have set a goal to conquer that and get to where you want to be. You are taking it step-by-step and that's now to do it.
