It's a journey.... week six

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Our “Living the Good Life” challenge for this week is finding time for just you. For doing something that you love for a minimum of 15 minutes. This is one of my favorite LTGL challenges as it reminds me to seek balance in my life.

Life is filled with responsibilities and commitments. We are going 100 mph in several different directions at once and it is hard to keep up. Finding that perfect balance is not going to happen, so instead work towards maintaining a rhythm that works for you and for your lifestyle. No two people share the exact lifestyle so you need for find that pace that works best for you.

I recently read an article that compares finding your own rhythm to that of the seasons. The author made the point that there are only two days of perfect balance in the year and those are the spring and fall equinoxes. Every other day of the year fluctuates in length and day or night is always longer than the other. Each season has its purpose and its own rhythm.

If we look at the season of winter, we see that plants dig deep into the earth to find the right nutrients to replenish themselves and prepare for the coming spring. The plants are resting and recharging. Now how does that relate to us? Having alone time is a great way to recharge. Setting aside time that is just for you feeds you the nutrients you need to spur your personal growth. Carve out time in your schedule for you that is not filled with errands or commitments.Take time to do the things you enjoy. For me that is reading or working on jigsaw or Sudoku puzzles.

Focus your energy on what is possible… on finding the pace that fits with your lifestyle...not on finding that perfect balance. Enjoy the rhythm of the seasons.

Remember, time spent on yourself is time well spent. You are worth it!
