February 12, 2019 SUPPORT GROUPS
There is much good to be said about support groups. Many don’t want to belong because they feel it shows a sign of weakness; however, we need to remember we have all been at a low point during our lifetime. Belonging to a group of individuals who have “been there, done that” is so encouraging and helpful. God wants us to belong to a community of believers who love Him, share with each other and provide support. The body of Christ is the best support group we could join to enjoy spiritual health.
Acts 2:46-47a “They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people.” (NLT)
1. Write about groups you belong to.
2. List the things your group does.
3. Know a group of godly believers will benefit your spiritual health.
4. Seek out a community who prays and gives God the glory.
Dear Lord, help us to not shy away from belonging to a support group. You know what we are struggling with. You know what things are on our minds and what we worry about. Help us to get involved with a community of believers where we share Your word and pray. We have all experienced hard times and we should get involved with others who have suffered as well. Show us where to get started and give us the courage to join or start a group of believers who love You and will pray for spiritual growth.
Meeting with other believers will help us to be encouraged to stay on God’s path for our lives.
Hebrews 10:25 “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (NLT)
Being involved with a community of believers requires we take action and get out of our comfort zone.
James 3:18 “You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.” (MSG)
When we join a support group of any kind, we need to show compassion, patience and encouragement.
Romans 15:5-6 “May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NLT)
