Starting an exercise & nutrition plan can be difficult. It always seems so overwhelming at first. Or I start off too intense, with my expectations too high & then when I can't keep up with all of the goals I set, I get frustrated & give up. I start feeling like a failure & then I basically fall right off & stay off, I slip right back into the bad habits, bad food, laziness. After all...it's easier to just not make the changes. It's comfortable. That's what I would tell myself at least. And it IS harder, however, it's also not "comfortable" being in this body with extra fat that causes my asthma to worsen, my back to hurt more, my knees to hurt. So this time I decided to take it slower. In November I decided that I would keep processed foods out of the house, that we would eat much cleaner, much healthier, with the exception of the first weekend of every month, on that weekend we are allowed one "sweet" treat. I also started training for a half marathon, just walking short distances. Nothing too overwhelming really.
In December I maintained that schedule, my son was in town for the month & with the holidays I didn't want to put on too much pressure & set myself up to fail again. With that change alone I lost 7 pounds between November 1 & January 8, which I know is not a lot in 2 months time, but I was happy with any loss over the holidays. I've lost more weight since then a total of 15 pounds. I've joined Spark, I've started tracking, I've cut (mostly) coffee & soda & I've added some strength training. My race (which I am only walking) is on St Patrick's Day. I bought my outfit yesterday & I am so excited to be doing this! I'm going to continue to add small goals each month, slow & steady, because this is my life...and I want to be here & enjoy it!
