Food Tracking Laziness, Grocery Replacement System, Calorie Second-Guessing

Saturday, February 02, 2019

There's absolutely no reason that I'm not tracking food intake, other than laziness. I feel I'm doing well with my choices, but the only way to make sure is to see it in numbers on the tracker. Today I've made a commitment to start again and try to stick with it to see if I've really been making those good choices.

I've created a new system for myself; it's so simple that it's almost ridiculous to mention. But since blogs are a tool to remind ourselves of various issues, that's what I'm doing. As I deplete my food supply, I'm replacing less desirable food items with those that are soundly nutritious. I'm thankful there are several nearby stores that sell good produce, and other healthy items, at low prices so it's not expensive to eat well.

Sometimes I crack myself up by second-guessing the calories listed on the label. For example, if I were to eat a Sara Lee Raisin bagel, I might think that there's no way such a puny little bagel would be 260 calories. I don't do that very often, but sometimes I wonder how they come to the numbers they post on the package. I limit bagels as a treat sometimes. I've done well in limiting starch lately. My body thanks me.

One down side to celebrating my birthday starting mid-January and the entire month of February, is that by the time it actually arrives (first week of Feb), I'm tired of celebrating. Maybe I'll go back to just the entire week or half of the month. (smiling)

Wishing all a wonderful day. For those in extreme temperatures, stay safe and warm.

(p.s. I guess I should explain why I celebrate so much. I was born on my dear grandmother's birthday and named after her. Lived with grandparents for first five years of my life. They were very important to me.)

    Happy Birthday Month! emoticon
Celebrating doesn't have to involve food. It could be getting your hair done, getting a mani/pedi. Going on a day trip. Oh so many options.
WTG on improving your pantry! that is truly a wonderful gift to yourself.

Logging food is the only thing that keeps me losing. I also like the use it up and replace philosophy that you're going with.

Happy Birthday! emoticon emoticon If I don’t know the calories of a food, I invariably pick one that has the most, but seems to me like it doesn’t

It is amazing how the food adds up so fast. How small one serving is and deciding what can I eat the most of to feel full the longest. I try to go as long as I can to eat because I don’t like to go to bed hungry, yet not eat too late at night. Celebrating your birthday right along with you for as long as you want to celebrate. My grandparents lived next door and I was always close to mine. Just before she died my grandma gave me her wedding ring that I cherish emoticon

I was getting pretty lazy with my tracking too for a long time. I have committed to honest tracking & trying to stay below a daily 1500 calorie limit.

I have to track too as I am horrible at guessing. Somethings I can do really well, but others are really far out to lunch. I understand wanting to celebrate twice, but not really the drawn out length of it. Extending a celebration would be more fun though.

My experience with this site is that I end up spending FAR TOO LONG tracking etc and chasing the elusive points when I could be doing something more active (ANYONE LISTENING??) I find all this obsession with tracking etc almost counterproductive in my opinion.

I really like your grocery replacement plan. Sounds like a reasonable healthy pantry solution to me. Think I'll copy your idea! emoticon

I need to track more thoroughly. I get sloppy. Even if I eat healthy food I can eat too much.

I barely notice my birthday and neither does anyone else. LOL. I have trouble remembering my age even! LOL.

Yes, I relate. I've been eating too much and I know it. But, I don't track and I know that I won't. So I am going to have to get a grip in my own way.

    Cheers to you.
