When a defeat is not a defeat

We had a very long and interesting discussion on an older women’s email forum about caregiving. Many felt it would be a good idea to fight for the benefits we’ve paid taxes for. I decided to walk away from the problem and drop out of the system until we need it more than we do now. DH was never really on board anyway. I’ve felt humiliated by not being able to fight well in Japanese, and the once yearly tests are unpleasant for DH. Just walking away from the whole situation and finding our own solutions feels best right now.
My first instinct was to fight, but deciding not to bother was based on what’s going to make us feel the most comfortable, not on what at first seemed right.
