January 25 - Gym Visit, Oops, Did I Do That & Awesome Trainer
Friday, January 25, 2019
Its no hidden secret that this week has been a nightmare. So, I surprised myself even when I changed clothes & drove across town to the gym.
I should have done my strength training routine Ryan gave me, but I had other plans. It just felt like a day to crank resistance up to a 4 on the recumbent bike and blare some Kane Brown in my earbuds! Yes, I know not your typical heart pounding workout music, but its great to just zone out to his awesome voice! So I cranked out 4 miles in 35 minutes and was soaked by the time I was done.
I went to my favorite mexican restaurant and had a sweet tea and beef taco salad. No chips snd salsa for me! I grabbed something to go for Alan to eat for later tonight.
Little did I know Id be seeing him sooner than I thought, LOL. I got 4 miles from my house and ran out of gas, thats a first for me! He loaded me up on his tow truck and got me to the gas station. We got everything taken care of and I headed home and he went to a police rotation.
Ive had 3 personal trainers in the last 11 years. They each have positive qualities and Ive learned from each of them.
Ryan, is a top notch trainer. I had started following him on Facebook and was impressed by his powerlifting skills. He also was sharing success stories of his personal training clients.
I had debated when I was between surgeries on hiring him to get me in shape. I had my hesitation in using him because training with him wasnt actual face to face, but more online based. After pondering the decision and talking to him about my medical history and upcoming surgery, I bit the bullet and hired him.
Ive been working with him since beginning of December, week of my gallbladder surgery. With his guidance, recommendations, and occasional tweak of my routine hes helped me to lose 14 lbs to date and several inches.
But what impressed me the most, was his willing to help me get moving after surgery. Ive had 20+ abdominal surgeries in my life and this last one kicked my butt. A two day hospital stay turned into four. So needless to say, when I got home I was in some pain.
Where others saw a missed opportunity to help me recover from a difficult surgery, Ryan hit the ground running and within hours of me being home simply told me, "Just walk, even if its just circles around your counter".
In 6 weeks, he had me walking circles around my counter, to walking to my mailbox and back, to walking laps up and down my street. Then last week, I wet back to the gym for the 1st time since before my surgery in December.
Not everyone can afford a personal trainer, but if you can, I suggest it! They help you in ways that you may not even know!
