Comfort foods, hike, watercolors

Sunday, January 20, 2019

I’ve been home sick with a miserable cold for the past few days. Do you have comfort foods that you eat when you are ill? I do. I like soft boiled eggs, soups, hot chocolate, juices and pudding. I guess all of them go down easy when you have a sore throat. (And my mom used to serve these items when we were sick as kids) The weather here has been very stormy, with Highwinds and wet snow. So I don’t miss getting outdoors much. But I am so ready to be over this cold virus!

Here are a couple of photos from my last hike into dry River Canyon. This canyon hike closes for several months in a few days, for raptor nesting. So my friend suggested hiking before it is closed. It is a beautiful and dramatic Canyon in the Badlands.

The trail was very icy in parts.

Finally, I thought I would share a couple of my watercolor paintings. These are landscapes that I did from sketches and photos during my trip to Lake Tahoe. The watercolors are not perfect, but I had a lot of fun painting them.

I love your paintings...I think they are really very good. You do have talent my friend! Loved your hiking pics as well. I surely hope your cold is better by now. DH has had a horrible hacking cough since January...I hope and pray it goes away it has totally drained him of energy and he's lost a lot of weight because he has no appetite and feels nauseous when he eats. Poor guy... emoticon

I hope you are almost over your cold - I’ve been lucky so far this winter (knock knock) w/some mild allergy-related sinusitis, nothing too horrible.
More beautiful hiking photos, & I appreciate your support on my blogs. I’ve gotten heat from friends & Family who think I need to “cut the cord”, but have you looked at rentals lately?!? I want Z to concentrate on his education, not be scrambling to pay the rent so even though he may not be doing it “My Way”, I’ll continue to support him.

    Hi Alison.............
I am glad to read that you are feeling much better. I am on the tail end of a cold too and it just takes so much energy when I don't seem to have enough to begin with!

I loved your photos of the Canyon and I also love your watercolors. I think that you are very talented.

My comfort food when I have a cold is homemade Chicken Noodle Soup. This time of year, I keep containers of it frozen just in case.
