Fresh start and where to begin?

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

With breakfast? My DH takes a lot of photos of my cooking. This was Sunday's breakfast: oats with berries and walnuts. I add hemp seeds and ground flax.

With lunch/dinner? This is a WW recipe for a lentil cauliflower sweet potato bowl. Looks prettier when all is separated. Tastes better when mixed.

While at work? I just bought this water container. I had a plastic (acrylic) water glass, and I thought that stainless steel would taste better and be healthier. It's from Walmart. My DH gave me the teddy bear, and the wall art reads: "Button, button, who's got the button?" This was a gift from my brother's family a while back. Years ago my mother told them how I was such a good toddler, she could leave me alone with a box of buttons and I'd play quietly with them. This made them all laugh hysterically. They teased me about the buttons a lot. The thing is, my grandfather was an Italian immigrant who was a tailor and had his own shop. My mom used to leave me there when she wanted to shop "in town". (Life was a lot different then). My grandmother would give me a box of buttons, and I'd give them all names and have them talk to one another. I had a fierce imagination. Of course, I didn't give this little detail to my relatives who gave me the artwork. They had enough "teasing" ammunition already. My mom must have gotten the idea of giving me buttons to play with from this.

Well, I survived. Didn't swallow any or stick any up my nose, and none of them really talked, so I guess I'm okay.

Time to carry on and restart my diet and exercise program. Maybe I could count my cups of water by moving buttons from one jar to the next. Ha ha. Seriously, I am feeling much better and am ready for more diet and exercise changes.

So glad you're feeling better. I loved hearing about your past with the buttons--even then it seemed like you were artistic with a fantastic imagination! emoticon

I'm so happy that you're feeling better and that food looks delicious!
I bet you don't really want to obscure that beautiful new mug of yours but to count cups of water, each time you finish you can add a rubber band at the bottom of your mug!

I love your button story. Playing with imagination is something that today's electronic toys rob from children. My cousins and I built an entire town scratching in the dirt with sticks for roads and using scraps of wood from a construction scrap pile next door, old tin cans etc. to represent the hospital, the police station etc. We even got my cousin Kenny involved, which was rare for any play where you might get dirty.

I still have my jar of buttons, some belonged to my grandmother! Wonderful looking food and a great Walmart find with your water bottle, a good incentive to drink lots of water as you start fresh. emoticon

I loved your button stories. We always had a tin of buttons in our house growing up. Those were the days when you would mend or replace buttons on clothes when needed. And when you did toss any clothing, you would cut the buttons off and save them, in case you needed one in the future. My friend and I still have tins of buttons from our mothers. We'll never use them all, so we have started doing craft projects with them, like hot gluing them to make wreaths or topiary trees for Christmas decorations. Some old buttons are quite pretty. Thanks for the memories this morning!
