Welcome to the Winter Challenge! There are some new faces on our Shooting Stars team and we want you to know that we are glad you are here!
Those who have been on the team for prior challenges are familiar with my WOW (Words on Wednesday) posts but for the newbies, these posts are meant to keep us motivated and to share bits of info and sometimes humorous items just to liven our day and to keep us on track.
As I prepared for this challenge, I thought about what my WOW messages should focus on. The word “journey” kept coming to mind so I did some research into the word and its meaning. The more I thought about it, the more evident it became that this was to be my focus.
Think about taking a trip vs making a journey. What are the differences? I say “I am going to make a quick trip to the store… not a quick journey.” We take weekend ski trips to the mountains or we take day trips to the beach…. All denoting a beginning and an end to the excursion.
But when we think about a journey, there is a beginning but is there an end in sight? It is more than just a hop in the car and drive to the beach type of adventure. There seems to be an implication that it may be arduous and that discoveries are waiting to be made. When I joined SparkPeople 5 years ago, I knew I was starting on a journey. It would not be a quick trip as I have about 100 lbs to lose. That is not going to happen quickly.
For the next 8 weeks, let’s look at this challenge as a journey and discover things together. When you are preparing for a vacation or a trip, you drag out the luggage and pack what you think you will need. As we begin this journey,I want to encourage you to start with an empty suitcase…unpack and leave all your preconceived notions and ideas behind and fill your suitcase each week with new ideas and new motivation to succeed.
Every day on this journey is a new opportunity to step up your game… be 1% better every day. Slowly but eventually your actions will pay off. Make lasting change your mantra- one day at a time.
I look forward to this journey with you… Happy Traveling!
