It’s been over a year since I blogged...

A week from today I will be in Australia. Today I’m sitting in the middle if the USA. If those two sentences don’t say how much the world has changed in my lifetime, (full disclosure, I was born in 1945) I’m not sure what would. We’ve planned the trip almost entirely on line, with the exception of a phone call for our tickets to the Australian Open Tennis Tournament, and even that call was made using WhatsApp. We have a connection in Melbourne because our son works globally. Our visas are paperless tied to our passports, so are our plane tickets. This trip is a combined 50th anniversary gift from our children and ourselves. We’re going a bit late since our 50th was in 2017, but since our daughter got married and we moved to a different state that year, we postponed the trip.
Today we begin the process of collecting all the things we think we need and then winnowing down as necessary. We will be gone three and a half weeks. We plan to take one carryon size suitcase each. We each have the equivalent of a medium backpack and I’ll have a modest sized purse. Luckily several of the places we are staying have laundry facilities and if we forget something essential, I’m pretty sure there are shops in Australia. We will be visiting Melbourne, Sydney (with a side trip to Blue Mountains) and Tasmania. Even as I read that sentence, I’m having trouble accepting that all these plans are coming to fruition.
Since yesterday was Epiphany, our family tradition is to take down and put away all the holiday decorations. I helped our daughter on Saturday and she helped us yesterday. Got everything put away except the Christmas dishes. Yes, I admit it, I have dishes I use for one month each year. In our old house, it was a relatively simple matter of transferring one set from the cupboards over the refrigerator to the accessible cupboards. This year, new house and the Christmas dishes hadn’t been unpacked from moving boxes, which meant I hadn’t set aside any cupboards for them. So today for over 40 minutes I trekked up and down stairs to lower level storage area to retrieve regular dishes and rebox Christmas dishes. I actually tried to be relatively inefficient. I got in over 1800;steps, got my heart rate up and broke a sweat. In addition. The bed is made, the second load of laundry in the washer and I’m on my second 10oz of water for today, all before 9:30.
Since I plan to send some group emails during our trip, I may copy and paste some of our adventures here. Happy New Year.

I'm sure that you will have a great time and altho' this coming week will drag on because of excitement, it will also come with a bang because the planning is over and it is 'here and now!" LOL!

I have never thought about having dishes for one month of the year, however, I also wouldn't have any place to store them, either. I've got no upstairs/downstairs to take them.

I get at lot of my walking exercise by putting my groceries and my laundry away one at a time. When I was having rehab a few years ago, the Physiotherapist doubted it would get my heart rate up or keep me walking fit until she put the heart monitor on and I went for that walk. Then she had to change her mind :-)

I'm looking forward to reading your holiday blogs and looking at the pics.

Have an emoticon time CJ. Take lots of pictures. I have always dreamed of going to Australia, because I wanted to go see the Crocodile Hunter. Now that he is gone, it is not my #2 destination. Maybe #5

Safe travels. I think the plane flight someone told me is almost 24 hours.
