New Years Eve 2018

Monday, December 31, 2018

In August of this year I came back to Sparkpeople. I have come back before for a few weeks
and then dropped off. I didn't know anybody that I had known in 2008 that was still on this site.

I decided this time, I would meet new sparkfriends and try to get some of this weight off.

I joined a few groups and made some new friends. My personality is being kind of a shy person, so I don't really post a lot, but I do read almost all of the posts on the teams that I belong to. I also read all of my mail. I appreciate all of you who are helping me in this weight loss journey.

To date I have lost 30 lbs. At my age (72), I really didn't think I would be able to lose that much. I hope to lose a lot more but I worry about losing it at my age.

I have started to feel cold all of the time, so I went to the doctor and she told me it's probably because of the weight loss. She did give me a blood test to make sure that there wasn't anything else that may be wrong and all my tests came back okay. She liked that I had lost the weight that I did and I told her about Sparkpeople and how I was doing it by eating between 1200 and 1550 calories a day. She liked the way I was losing the weight and said
she was fine with the way I was doing it.

I have lost my appetite for sugary things and also eat way less in portions that I use to eat.
I eat the things that I always ate, just smaller portions. My one vice is drinking diet soda.
I would love to stop, but it is an addiction. I did stop for about 2 months and replaced it with drinking diet Snapple ice tea, but unfortunately I am back drinking the diet soda.

I am not diabetic, and am happy about that. But I still weigh 215 lbs. and really need to lose
another 65 lbs.

I have made a goal to reach 150 lbs. by the end of 2019. It's a goal that I believe is achievable and I know that a lot of you will help me along the way. I thank you now for helping me in the past and I thank you for all the future help you give me.

I hope that you all have a "Happy New Year"

.

Hugs to all.

Gayle, such a nice blog and you explained your coming year so nicely. I, too, am striving to get down to 150 lbs by this time next year. I know we can do it, nothing is impossible for us, we have to really apply ourselves. So let's do this!!! I'm on board with you, walking by your side.
    Hugs, Gloria

I joined SP in Jan of 2009...it is amazing how many of our old friends have disappeared.
I wonder if they are doing well and don’t need us any longer or if they gave up.
I have not achieved my goals but find SP helpful and will never give up.
May 2019 be a wonderful year for you and yours.

Best wishes to you as you start the new year with new friends here on Spark. I am also 72; my journey has been less successful since I've had so many complications in caring for a husband who has had two surgeries and two bouts of cancer during that time: my time for self-care is quite limited. But it's good to have another lady of our specific years and I look forward to joining you in that push to lose weight and get healthier. My weight will start 2019 at 174 pounds (my weight this morning) and my goal is 150 or less.

By the way, the problem with switching from one diet drink to another is the artificial sweeteners. They do not have calories but they have chemicals that still cause the body to hold weight; in my case, it also created the belly fat around my middle that I had not had previously. The key - and the hardest part - is to stop all artificial sweeteners.

Best wishes for the new year and success in meeting your goals.
