Anemia ~ Hematologist Visit
Tuesday, December 11, 2018
I went to the hematologist and his conclusion is that it is still iron related. He says that I do have hypothyroidism and that is just exacerbating everything. He says that when a person has iron deficiency anemia and hypothyroidism, the hypothyroidism makes the anemia worse. He basically said I need to find a good supplement that my body will absorb better, eat a good iron-rich diet, and get on a low dose thyroid tablet. At that point, everything should straighten itself out. WHEW! It was a relief to hear that I am going to be OK! He said a LOT of my aches, fatigue, and general tiredness can probably be pointed straight at my thyroid. If we get it treated, I will begin to feel lots better.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers! I am still lurking and focusing on my health and wellness. I’m eating lots of green veggies and I did swap iron supplements....AGAIN. I am trying to find the right one for me and my body.
PS - He did say that my numbers at my PCP were sitting just below a 10 and that normal should be a 12 or above for hemoglobin/hematocrit and that while I was in his office my number was 12.7!!! YAY! So, all the greens and broccoli evidently helped! =)
