5% Challenge

Saturday, December 08, 2018

Am starting on the 5% challenge a little early. I think this will be a good tuneup. If you're interested, there is more information here. "If you are a blogger please mention the 2019 Winter 5% Challenge and invite your friends to join. You can use the 'Share This Post With Others' button under a blog too. This will help us recruit new members. This link is to our Community page. "

The 5% challenge starts January 5th, but they encourage you to start now to plan for what you want to achieve when this challenge starts. I would like to lose 5% of the weight I am now, increase a minimum of 5% of the exercise I am doing now, and integrate it better into my life, so that I do it routinely. Those are my goals for this time.

They suggest aiming for 20 minutes of exercise a day and breaking it up into smaller portions if that works well. I would like to walk for at least ten minutes 3x a day, plus do strength training, alternating between two of the three, arms, legs, core.

Contingency plansare that if the weather is bad, I drive to the mall and walk there. I will be joining the local Senior center, since they have regular yoga classes and Tai Chi as well. Two goals in one... more exercise, and get to know more people.

Diet: Will be following South Beach diet principles. This works well for me and leaves me satisfied. Right now I am considerably off plan, mostly due to Mom spending ten days in the hospital and financially not able to get a lot of food other than hospital food. Planning to go back on Phase 1, even if only for a few days, but the aim would be to go for two weeks.

Sounds like a plan, I hope, and not like a straitjacket. LOL. I do not like overly planned regimes! But discipline is key. Sometime in the new year, I would like to join a gym, but will hold off until the New Year resolutions people have tapered off. Probably will join the local Y, with any luck. Meanwhile, I just may go and ask for a tour of the place to see if it is something I would like to visit on a regular basis.

There we go... fun ahead!
