Day 9: My first run

Sunday, December 02, 2018

Ok so I'll do my best to count my days correctly lol.

This past week wasn't too shabby. I had my down moments but generally speaking just tried to stay busy. I'm in grad school so my semester is wrapping up this week and I've been thinking about how I'm going to spend my days off. I was reflecting back on some of the decisions I've made regarding my food and lack of motivation to make changes. Needless to say my decisions have been more so destructive to my health than anything and I don't need to continue down that path.

So today I woke up and after puttering around for awhile, trying to ignore the excuses running rampant in my head, I went for a run. It was awful! I hated it, I hate running...I struggled to keep a consistent pace. I was getting annoyed because my headphones were getting in my way and I was dying from a lack of oxygen to my system. Ok so maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but good lord that's how I felt in the moment. I kept spitting because my mouth kept developing this nasty thick saliva, probably from breathing so heavily. It doesn't help that I picked up a pack of cigarettes this past week just from the stress and life frustrations I've been feeling lately. Well needless to say I paid the price today. (I use to be a regular smoker but I quit a few years ago, in moments of HIGH STRESS and DEPESSION I find myself craving them and well my craving won this week.) Anyways those cancer sticks have been trashed so I won't have that temptation in my face anymore. It's a disgusting habit and I HATE the smell of smoke.

Anyway back to my running adventure...that I HATED....I will say once I was done I felt ok, then I showered and started my day and I felt better. I'm proud of myself for getting out there and just doing it. My running time is awful and in addition to my breathing struggles I started getting pains in my side and had to slow it down at certain moments but all in all I showed up. Also, I brought my dog so I know this will be good for him in the long run as well. HAHA no pun intended.

Here are my awful running stats.
Distance: 1.79 miles
Time: 27:36
1 Mile pace: 14:27

Looking at this makes me cringe slightly. I use to be able to get a mile done in about 10 minutes. That was a few years ago and ...well...I haven't been running in a long time. Add to that, I haven't been taking very good care of myself either so I really can't expect much different from myself.

We came across some animals on our of which was a donkey lol
