Some say "Ignorance is Bliss" but why keep the blinders on when it comes to things we need to know for optimum health. Staying in the dark can be dangerous.
I promise this is not a brain tease. But I guarantee, the topic is something paramount to think about. Ok-Are you ready?
1. What is the strongest muscle in the body?
2. What is a single body part that can get us into more trouble than anything else?
As for our muscular stature, nobody said we all have to develop our muscles to the point we don the cover of a body builders magazine! (whew!)
There IS, however, ONE muscle in the body that if we neglect or mistreat, it can fail us and if it fails all else fails.
If you guessed the heart to #1- you are right !
Our first heartbeat was detected when we were in our mothers womb. This muscle-organ pumps 3,000 gallons of blood each day! What are we doing on a daily basis to protect our hearts so it will see us through a long and healthy life?
Recently I heard a spokesperson for Red Heart women say: "Every single minute one woman in the United States has a heart attack ! My antennae went straight up! Not to mention: Every year about 735,000 Americans have a heart attack . Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women.
February is typically Heart Healthy month, but why not think about what beats within our chest often and not wait until damage is done.
With the second question, lets tie both together.
2. Just what body part could get us into trouble?
Think about what goes in and what goes out.
It is hard to walk-back-words once they are spoken. Therefore, I have learned to watch what comes out of my mouth.
Next is what goes INTO my mouth.
I like to consider what I put in the gas tank of my car.
I want it to run well and have a long lifeline, therefore, I am willing to pay a little extra for quality gasoline. If I compromise quality, I am likely to pay the price later!
Same as my body. I plan, and purchase foods sure to provide fuel and nourishment. Before I pop something into my mouth, I ask myself: "will this do something for me, or cause my body to work harder? Is this something I will have to 'work off' later? ..
Drink less... Pump some iron …
...Reduce stress .. Lower blood pressure... Good sleep ... Cut the fat... Reduce weight...
We are now in the Holiday season, and are busy-busy-busy, but may we slow down enough to take care of this wonderful body we have been given.
Thanks for stopping by today and have a heart-healthy day!
