Working around the house.

Sunday, November 11, 2018

My friend's husband hadn't been feeling well for a couple of weeks. He missed work early this week and a doctor treated him for wax in his ear. He had some dizzy spells at work. He went to work and got so dizzy that someone had to drive him home. His wife thought he was having sinus problems, but told him she thought they needed to go to the hospital. They went to the Emergency Room in the morning and by that night, they were at the University of Maryland Hospital. He has leukemia.

I phoned her last night because the first day they were there, she called and told me he had high white blood cell counts and something wrong with his stomach. She didn't say what they thought was wrong with him. I phoned her Friday night and they found cancer cells in his lymph system and put in a PICC line. He had a blood transfusion Friday and is expected to be in the hospital for 5 weeks. She is staying in the room with him. This was devastating news to us.

We weeded and cleaned the flowerbeds Wednesday. There were some small trees growing up in our cedar bushes and a vine that had grown tendrils under the siding on our house. We also had a lot of thistles in the flowerbeds and got two yard waste bags full. Soon the city will stop the pickup of yard waste until next Spring.

Our son came over and raked leaves and came over again yesterday and he and my husband cleaned the rain spouting.

I paid to have an electrician come and fix the light in the guest bathroom on Thursday. It was $98 for the first half an hour and $29.50 for each 15 minutes after that. The electrician had the light working within the first half an hour.

I also bought a new light fixture Thursday night at Home Depot in case this one quits working again. It is not an exact match, but as close as I could get. It was $162.18 with tax.

I did laundry on Friday and put away the clothes, made up our bed with clean sheets and a blanket and put out clean towels and face cloths, potholders, a dish cloth and a sponge in the kitchen.

My husband and son are leaving on the 15th to drive to Wyoming and to do some sightseeing along the way. They are going to our daughter and son-in-law's house in Cheyenne, Wyoming for Thanksgiving. My son will fly back while my husband will drive my son's car home. My husband is taking $500 with him and it will not be easy for me to save that much again. I chose to stay home so we wouldn't have to pay to board our animals.

We went to our son's house last night for dinner and his wife doesn't want us to move.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and my husband and I are both veterans. I made a long list of places where we like to eat and he will choose where we will go. Some businesses will not have their offers until Monday and that makes it nice, that we can have two days of free food and other services.

I just wanted to give an update on what is going on.

Thank you for your service. My dad was in WWII and hubby was in during the Vietnam War. I am happy that people now are happy and nice to veterans. I am sure you remember after Vietnam, people were so down on them.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend’s husband. Tough, tough battle. Many prayers.

I wish your DH and DS safe travels. That’s a long drive for sure and the weather can be so “iffy”.

Thanks to you and your DH for your service to this country. That’s nice that you will get free meals. You deserve it.

Your friends diagnosis must have been such a shock. They were quick to start his treatment. That’s great that they figured it out.

I had a feeling your family there wouldn’t want you to move.

It’s goid for your hubby to have bonding time with your son. Mine recently did the same thing.

Thank you for your service! My husband and son are looking forward to their free meals too! And today is my husbands birthday - free lunch and dinner!!
