Brach Pumpkins: The Tradition Continues, but Differently
Wednesday, October 31, 2018
My stepfather's dad, Granddad, was a life insurance salesman by trade but had been a magician in his youth. One of the only memories I have of him is him making Brach pumpkins magically appear all over his enormous house.
In his honor, I buy a bag of the Brach pumpkins around this time of year. I bought two when they were on sale about 2 weeks ago. Not sure what BF did with the first bag (I was going to take it to work and share the contents), but I opened the other one at work today.
I read the serving size on the label. Four. Sugar is not in my diet these days. But, I chose to have ONE. I enjoyed it and thought of Granddad and that happy memory.
I dedicated today's step count to him. While I did not achieve my goal, I got more steps in than I thought I would.
We had a free lunch, costume contest and dessert at work. I skipped the main dish and loaded up on salad and veggies. I did not have any candy or desserts. As I sat there and laughed with coworkers, I reflected on how I felt last fall at the time. I was not well and did not realize how sick I really was. Thanks to the gall bladder removal in January and the loss of about 36 pounds, I am feeling so much better.
I have a long way to go. I am OK with that.
