morning cuppa spark - travel mode... and time off!

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

it's travel time, and none too soon - this last week of pressure with work and sleep deficit has seen me sneaking a few more of DH's potato chips (darn that man!) and even (horrors!) his crackers and cheese in moments of weakness when my resistance muscle just was not holding up.

but there is one time it is strong - oddly so - and that is when we travel. i NEVER snack then. just doesn't cross my mind. because hunger is not an emergency. we'll cross the mountains, we'll travel for hours, and hunger is not an emergency. and i won't eat until i get to the restaurant - where i have already checked the menu online, and know what i will have. and hunger is not an emergency. and we will head for the airport on friday, and i will have my airplane food with me - because planning means not eating the crap at he airport or on the plane.

habits. ingrained.

it remains to be seen whether these will be high step days, or just getting through - but we'll keep an eye on the fitbits, and if it looks like we can add to the day, we will.

we are heading to durham to visit our grandson - and his mom and dad - for the weekend. just a quickie. and it looks like i am going to pull this off with No Work. considered leaving the laptop at home, or at least in seattle at our friend's house, but have this niggling "what if" - what if the flight is canceled and we have to stay an extra day or so? so i guess i will bring it, but i do not plan to work after today. yay!

meanwhile, we will be driving if not in snow, then through snow when we cross the mountains today. we spent monday morning getting our winter tires put on the car, and talk a lovely fall walk through the tiny town of twisp, where we met these critters:

they were quite curious and came to take a closer look at us

and meanwhile, we have a new family member in stockholm (and oh am i tempted to take one of those cheap flights!)

Great pics! I know what it's like to have a DH who has snacks like that and hard to resist at times. Its not helping his weight either!
Good for you on packing healthy snacks on your trip. Enjoy and safe travels.
Hey, your laptop could be used for fun sparking. Forget work! 😀

What a cute puppy! And love the photos of the mule deer. My neighbor feeds the deer (which is strictly illegal here in city limits), so they are REALLY bold in our neighborhood.
I am impressed with how you prepare and manage your travels, to stay on track with eating!

Sounds like a well deserved and well needed break! Enjoy your visit with family and friends!

I have added to "hunger is not an emergency" that "hunger/eating is not a priority." Just lately when on the road for short or extended trips, that I don't have to "worry" about food. It's taken a loooong time. I must consider but not adhere to all the information that says plan ahead, don't let yourself get too hungry, stick to scheduled eating time, etc...but there are days when I just say, ya know, hunger is not a priority here. I don't have to eat on the road if options are not available or worth it. I have good food waiting at home and lots of times resturaunts, especially fast food doesn't even compare! So for days out and about I sometimes just wait. Of course, doesn't always work for extended travel. If the food is part of the social experience, I consider it worth it! But if it's just grab, eat, go then I'm careful or wait it out. I am slooowly learning to rethink this matter.
Wishing you, happy, healthy, and safe travels! Enjoy life! Thanks for Sparking!

So much is about habits, isn’t it?? I go away for the winter, lose lots of weight, return home and gain it all back! I have to work on those habits! Safe travels!
