Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Sunday, October 21, 2018
This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed in October. It is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. A variety of events around the world are organized in October, including walks and runs, and the pink illumination of landmark buildings. Blog about any thoughts you have about breast cancer and its prevention and/or how it has affected you or people you know.
I looked up breast cancer prevention online, and found this list from the Mayo Clinic. Here are some things you can do to reduce your risk of breast cancer:
-Control your weight.
-Be physically active.
-Limit dose and duration of hormone therapy.
-Avoid exposure to radiation and environmental pollution.
Two weeks ago I did a breast cancer walk with my mother and a friend of ours who is a breast cancer survivor. It’s the third year that we’ve done the walk together. Here is a picture of the shirt we got. It’s a combination of the pink breast cancer ribbon and the Wonder Woman logo.
