BIG Worry goes away

Thursday, October 18, 2018

I am 61, have a mother and 2 grandmothers who had breast cancer. I get my mammogram regularly--and last week I had my usual one. They saw "something" and wanted an ultrasound done on the right breast. Couldn't get in for a week....

Am I the only one who thought that was a bad idea? Do you know WHERE my imagination can go in a week?? I did a pretty good job--only in the dead of night did I despair. I mentioned it to 3 people--hubby, a good friend here and the person whose kids I was supposed to pick up today after school cause the only appointment I could get would interfere with that. (And I told you guys on Spark--and so many were so supportive!)

Well--got there, got that supposedly-warmed-up-gel on the wand and then on me (wasn't too warm, that's for sure) and the technician found the "thing"--looked like a black hole on the screen. The radiologist looked and said "benign cyst--lots of people get them. Call your doctor if you feel a lump/have discharge/etc. Get another mammogram next October." And I am done.

I feel like I lost LOTS of weight--lighter than air! Even if I haven't been thinking about it, I guess I have been thinking about it....So get checked out, ladies (and gentlemen, YOU watch out, too for lumps and bumps) and then you can breathe easier. I would have fought it with all my might--I have daughters that I want to be here for for many years--but I am glad if I don't have to fight it. I do try to support others--but I am not good at being supported!

Anyway--thanks if you knew and wished me well--that made a difference to me!

I am so very relieved to hear your good news and so happy for you!!! I was in your position last October, and yes, my ultrasound was a week or better away from the mammogram, too. Entirely too long!

In my case, however, the black whole turned out to be hourglass shaped and still black on the ultrasound; meaning that it was casting a shadow which benign cysts do not.

I couldn't feel my lump because I'm lumpy/bumpy anyway, so if I wouldn't have gone for the mammogram, it wouldn't have been found until it was far more advanced.

I'm hoping it was a one and done, but all I can do is wait and live and love and, and, and!!!

May you never be frightened in that way again!!!

Wow, big sigh of relief. Very scary waiting between the mammo and ultrasound. Glad things turned out ok for you.

I’m very happy that your “ big worry” has gone away! My Mother also had breast cancer, and I have had it twice, 2003 and 2016. Those mammograms remain very scary, although I have only one breast now to be squished.( my sense of humour is my biggest coping mechanism!)
You are so right....we all have to be aware of any changes, lumps and bumps and take action!
    Take care!
