Can the blind do a fun run?

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Just signed up for another run; this time I will be doing a "Foam Glow" run with my three kids. I am nervous about taking my Jalisse because of her sight impairment. It will be at night, and what if the foam gets in her eyes?!?!?

The Terrain Race that Devin, Morgan and I recently did was absolutely out for Jalisse. The location is just too dangerous for her and she would be a danger to the other participants. However, she never lets her limitations hold her down... and I know that she would rock an obstacle run, because she is a strong little girl. I just need to find a race with a more favorable landscape.

I know… those of you that have done a terrain run, or a mud run are shaking your heads. But, I know there has to be a course with level ground. The Del Mar Mud Run is already sold out for next year, but that is a better course for a little blind girl; if race horse can run it and not break a leg…

And… I just watched a video clip of a sight impaired gentlemen doing a Tough Mudder.
I know that I am putting limitation on my daughter out of fear. I know that she is so capable. But, it is my job to protect her. I want to preserve the limited vison that she still has. She already was legally blind and then just jumping into a pool she completely lost sight in her right eye.

I guess we will just see how this foam run goes.
