First Appointment for Acupuncture

Sunday, October 14, 2018

A few people asked me to let them know how my appointment went with acupuncture. Friday Oct 12th was my first time. I opted for the needles and not the laser. The needles were placed on each side of my spine and across the lower part of my back above my buttocks. The needle placement is similar to this picture.

The needles were in for a total of 15 minutes. I did not feel them at all. He used an antiseptic wipe before placing them and after he took them out he used another wipe, I'm assuming alcohol. During the entire procedure I felt very relaxed. When I got up the only pain I had was the discomfort of being on my stomach for that entire time. I'm a bigger woman and I have back spasms when I lay on my stomach. After I got my bearings, I stood up and I could immediately tell a difference. I would say even now 3 days later I am about 45% freer from the pain I had when going in to that first apt. One of the spots across my lower back burns a bit. I had my daughter look at it. She said there was a small lump under it, she could see where the needle was placed, but again, I"m 45% freer from pain. I am having this done again on Friday Oct 19th. I'll do another blog on the second visit. I did however wake up this morning around 3am with some discomfort in my hip. I took two Tylenol and went back to sleep until time to get up for work. When I woke up I was okay. This is my 7th day in a row. I still work tomorrow as well. I'm so looking forward to Tuesday! emoticon

Some things I have noticed:
1.) I have carried a slight headache
2.) I'm freer from pain
3.) I can tie my shoes without crying
4.) I can sit a bit longer
5.) I can walk better

On that note...have a great day everyone.

Just for kicks ~

That's fantastic! I am so glad you feel better. I hope the acupuncture shows even more improvement as you continue to do it. I had no idea acupuncture could also be done with lasers, but old school sounds better to me. emoticon emoticon

Thanks so much for sharing your progress with acupuncture treatments. I remember my Mom used to go to an acupuncturist and said it seemed to work for her. I'd like to go to one, but my insurance doesn't cover it and I can't afford it either. Good luck on your journey to finding "pain relief!"

I'm so glad you tried this and felt immediate relief. In desperation, I tried acupuncture about four years ago for a Zumba injury that would not ease, and like you, felt immediate relief. My acupuncturist combined the treatment with heat and cupping. He also treated me (about a year later) for arthritis in my thumb joints. In both cases, one day he just said, "okay, you're done." I am reminded of the Zumba mishap on days after I've done a lot of walking, and I'm thinking I may need another round for the thumbs, as I do feel twinges, especially in colder weather. The person who referred me to the acupuncturist sees him about once a month for her carpal tunnel issues.
