Well, here I am, thinking about life, closer to retirement but not sure how old I will be when that happens. Seeing elderly patients at the hospital that are stumbling into retirement, losing their reason for being, are asking what their purpose in life is, thinking retirement is truly "the golden ages", that it is supposed to be this wonderful, joyful time in life. The elder years are not really talked about or celebrated. Yes, the body & mind are evolving & remind us of age. And everyone who knows me, knows I am "a glass half full kinda gal". So what wisdom may I offer? I think one day at a time is the best I can do. Our journeys are all unique & individual. However, as we age, I believe we need to rely on others for help, comfort & sharing joy. It is not a time to isolate & shut down. Many elders are on way too much medication. If you have a loved one who you suspect needs their medication reviewed, be proactive & help them approach the doctor. Especially if they are prescribed pain medication. See if they can approach their care in a holistic way. And so many (no matter what age) need human touch & kindness. It's amazing how some people get all wrapped up in their lives & forget about spending time showing care towards others. Be mindful & spend some time showing people love & kindness. This preacher's kid will end there.
