Johnny Appleseed Day
Thursday, September 27, 2018
This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam:
September 26th was Johnny Appleseed Day. There is a lot of "legend" in stories written about Johnny Appleseed. By its definition, over the years, legends grow bigger than life. It also appears that there is some link between Johnny Appleseed and very early Arbor Day celebrations. What are some of your favorite ways to enjoy apples? Celebrate today with an apple rich menu. Include fresh apples for snacks, and some applesauce or apple pie for dessert. And, make plans to plant an apple tree.
I was taught the story of Johnny Appleseed as a child. I also learned this Johnny Appleseed song:
As an adult, I taught first grade. We always celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day every year. We learned about him, and did arts and crafts and other apple activities. We also had the children bring in red, green, and yellow apples, and they got to taste all three.
I like eating apples in lots of ways, including raw with peanut butter or caramel dipping sauce, apple juice, apple butter, and applesauce.
