Dorothy's Journey: Chapter 75 - The Circle is Complete
Wednesday, September 19, 2018
Torn away from being fit, healthy and organized, Dorothy started her journey back.
Dorothy met a friend for lunch at the local Chinese buffet. The greeter smiled and excitedly reached for her wallet and kept repeating that she still had the butterfly. She said she had many wallets and moved the butterfly everytime she changed her wallet.
This was the same lady that inspired Dorothy to start folding dollar bills. One day Dorothy came to eat and saw this same lady fold balloons into trinkets for young customers. The balloons didn't cost that much, but brought joy to the children. At Dorothy's work that year, she was told that Christmas is not celebrated by the Company. Situations in the past that were abused, soured the company on celebrating the holiday. Dorothy said it was a new year, new employees and to give the holiday celebration another try. Dorothy thought of how she could give a folded "balloon" to the employees that would be easy on her wallet, but let her co-workers know the spirit of the season. That first year, Dorothy gave each employee that came a folded turtle out of a dollar bill and a $10,000 chocolate candy bar. Every one liked the simple gifts. Subsequently, each year, employees looked forward to what Dorothy folded out of a dollar.
Dorothy told the greeter at this restaurant that she was the inspiration for this new tradition. The greeter told her that she had stopped folding the balloons. Dorothy told her that she did not and gave her the folded butterfly.
So fast forward to today. It was nice to see that the greeter still had the butterfly. The greeter went on to say that she had started folding balloons again, but for donations. The funds raised would be to help with doctor bills for a three year old blind baby boy. Dorothy told her how she was glad she was using her talent again to help the little boy and was sure that the funds would be appreciated.
