# 13. Thanks to an SP friend, Nancy

My SP friend, Nancy, did me a real favor yesterday when she responded to my blog.

I had written that I ate corn bread at breakfast on Sunday because I had been denying myself all week long.

Nancy called me on that one, and wrote, "You are not denying yourself. You are taking care of yourself."


So much of our success here on SP depends on having the right attitude.

If I am feeling that I am DENYING myself all week long, then I am bound to feel that I DESERVE the extra treat on the weekend.

Those are old DIET-related ways of thinking. And I should know better.

And I DO know better.

I need to be feeling really good about the way I am eating -- because it is really good for me.

What am I denying myself by staying with my program?

-- poorer scores on my blood tests, with the resulting poorer health results to come
-- tighter clothing, and not liking the way I look
-- lower self esteem that comes from not keeping the promises to myself. (Thank you One

-- feeling less in control of me

It is good to know that I have friends who point me in the right direction when I stray or stumble.
