Strutt With Your Mutt

Today I walked a 3K Strutt With Your Mutt with DD #2 and her St. Bernard Arthur. We saw another St. Bernard as well as an Irish Wolfhound. It was a tiny little elderly lady with the Irish Wolfhound but it was walking nicely with her! I was so impressed! There were tiny Chihuahuas, puppies, Basset Hounds, etc. I think there might have been a Golden Retriever group because there were so many and they seemed so excited to see one another. Actually everyone in the walk was excited to see all the different breeds and ask lots of questions. Such a friendly experience.
The weather was perfect with white fluffy clouds to keep things cool. I have been trying to walk more to prepare for this, but was worried I had not done enough. But there was so much visiting and stopping for the dogs to greet each other that it was a pleasant stroll instead of a hard fast walk.
Our Arthur did a fine job of greeting everyone with a smile and a wet nuzzle of his nose. He is only a year old but weighs 160 pounds so far. Our daughter has been told he will fill out more and add a few more pounds. She didn't set out to get a dog this large and had a terrier in mind, but fell in love. I have to admit I am glad they have their own home with a nice backyard for Arthur. I think he would accidently knock DH and/or me down at some point. He likes to hug which is by leaning on you. And he has it in his head that he is a lap dog and wants to sit with you really close. So sweet but overwhelming sometimes.
I can't wait to do more things like this again. It is so worth it to pass up the food goodies that keep us unhealthy. I have to keep reminding myself that I do it for health and the ability to keep moving. And now I have a shirt and some bling (as ONEKIDSMOM calls it) to remind myself why I am getting out there and walking even when I am not in the mood. And next year I am going to get the grandson to bring his Collie and join us. The Collie can really move and it will take some conditioning to keep up with her. Fun times ahead!
