AGE.......ing.

Sunday, September 16, 2018

I’d prefer to age gratefully. To have reverence for the truth of who I am and all the changes that are taking place within and around me.

I intend to age exuberantly. Colorfully. Creatively. Bravely. Boldly. Healthfully. Honestly. And unapologetically.

I am trying to celebrate wisdom, confidence and self-love that I have worked so hard all these years to attain, though not perfectly, it is a learning process as I go on.

I have a dear friend who spends a large amount of time complaining about “age” related issues. It doesn’t serve her well nor is it a conversation that I enjoy discussing. I believe choosing to honor our experience, our wisdom and our gifts better suits a person than moaning about how everything “hurts.”

I believe getting older is a privilege. Not a curse. Instead of fearing that you become the “victim of age,” why not set an intention to flourish your own way? Actually intentions become the foundation of the lives we create. Get it?

It is never to late to soar, maybe today’s the day you will take a little step toward giving yourself heart wings to lift your spirits and live a life you so inspire to live.

Yes it is a privilege. My sister has a brain tumor but she doesn't let it define her life. She travels and works, even though she could easily go on disability. she works out EVERY day to stay strong. It bugs me that a friend of a friend has a mild hand tremor and went on disability.

Like you, I like to age gracefully. Now am 71 and do have more aches, but I keep working out on a regular basis. That helps immensely! emoticon

There are ups and downs to every stage of our lives, and so far 73 and 74 has been my least favorite, to many health issues for both of us, but I do embrace it. Well, most of the time. And no I am not venting or being a Downer Debbie, just stating a fact.

Aging is a process, and I am trying to embrace my age right now just as it is. Enjoy it. And you are right when you say it is a privilege. There are those who DON'T have the privilege of aging!

Well, I'm not sure I do anything exuberantly, but maybe I should give that some thought. What I do know is that I don't think much about age. My very favorite new friend is Grace - an 83 year old who is in almost every one of my classes at the gym. I love her confidence and poise and her ability to keep on trying even though it's not working just right for her. She is aging gracefully for sure!
