What's new in the zoo?

Well, let's start with the Brookfield Zoo 5K I did last week. Such a great race every year, running through the zoo before it opens to the public, getting flashbacks to when my kids were little and all the afternoons we spent there.

It was a good day to wear my penguin buff my daughter brought me back from her recent trip to Iceland.

A bit of a sedentary week at work. I'm learning new duties as things are shifting at work which includes driving into the city one day a week.

But I squeezed in walks as much as I could this week. Still working on the MapMyFitness app You Vs the Year challenge... 1018 km in 2018. I'm at over 900km which is exciting because last year I finished at about 620km.

I started the Yoga With Adriene 14-day video series she put out beginning Sept 10. It's aimed at yoga for everyone. I love Adriene, been doing her youtube videos for a few years now. I love my time on the mat.

Friday, I completed the SparkCoach challenge to accumulate 50 pushups (any variation) throughout the day. I did three sets of ten off my desk at work, during my run after work I ran past a ball park so I did a set of ten off the bleachers then a set of ten on my toes at home.

Speaking of that run, not my best. It got hot after some cool days and I just hadn't moved around much before I got started. I felt like I was made of lead running through mud but I accomplished my goal of 5-mile Friday so I could smile.

After my run, I stopped at my park district and signed up for their fitness center. So cheap and I get access to all the classes they offer, in addition to the fitness area.

I had signed back up with Orange Theory which starts in October when they open a new location but when I saw how inexpensive the park district was, I had to change my mind. I LOVE those workout, I highly recommend it if you have the means but it is pricey. I love saving money for retirement even more.

Biggest news of the week, my daughter and her boyfriend are moving back home after a year in Fort Lauderdale. Those of you that read my blogs last August and September may remember I was devastated when they moved away but I pulled off an academy-winning performance of mom in a supportive role in front of them.

They moved for his dream job. I visited twice, have a third trip coming up in ten days. They pulled the rug out from under him on his one-year anniversary, he was totally blindsided.

They talked about it and decided to move back home since neither of them really felt at home there anyway, no need to stay.

They are going to stay with DH and I when they get back to get their bearings. I'm very happy about that but then feel terrible for why they are coming back. There's a lot to work out so they may be back the end of October. I have time to slowly work on the spare bedroom for them.

I still plan to fly down in a few days, enjoy a little R&R, help them with any details and enjoy a last brunch at our favorite spot. I highly recommend The Alchemist if you get to the Fort Lauderdale area.

Okay kids, that's life in these parts. Hope life in your parts is fabulous. Big hugs to those affected by the hurricane running through the Carolinas. I wish I could wave my magic wand.

Let's write a fabulous new chapter for the week ahead!

I am happy that the kids are moving back, but sad for the circumstances. At least the job market is much better now and of course, they have youth on their side! You continue to inspire me to work out more - just reading this reminded me that I want to bring a pair of sneakers to work to leave in my desk for those days when it's so nice out that I want to walk my entire lunch hour!

    You look marvelous!

Well, yeah, bad reason for sure that your kids are moving back, but . . . glad they are!

Good luck to you and them thru this change.

Kellie, like I said before you really do inspire me how active you are. Pretty amazing woman I would say.
I know how much you will love having your daughter close by again. I sure hope it all works out for them.

I think it's great that you have so many different exercise opportunities, Kellie. Your level of activity is inspiring! I hope everything works out with your daughter and her BF. That's really sad that the company did that to him, but it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I'll keep my fingers crossed for them after they return "home." Big hugs to you for being such a supportive mom!
