It's Sunday...my MOST favorite day of the week!

Hello my sparklies! emoticon

FINALLY...things are slowly picking up at our little consignment gallery. I've had two pretty good days for sales last week and I hope that trend continues.

You remember this fabulously unique pub set...it sold two days after it came in and I'm SO happy for the owner and ourselves of course!

I just love this set...it has an inlaid bamboo tabletop that makes it so lovely! I was lucky that it sold in its entirety...the table with the two swivel bar stools and then the other 3 separate barstools for the bar. The couple that purchased the set just moved to FL from Texas and were so excited to get something so unique. They would have paid THREE times the amount if they would have bought the set retail.

There was a good story about this set. A customer spotted it the day it came into the gallery and expressed great interest. She said that she was setting up a drum room and the shape of the stool into fit within the decor beautifully!

I researched the set and told her a price. A VERY good price I must say considering the price of a similar table by the same manufacturer was $975 for the table alone.

The customer came back to our gallery the next day when the hubs was there and he said she had him turn the table and the stools upside down so she could scrutinize the labels for the manufacturer then sat down and researched everything for close to a half hour and ultimately told him she would be back later. Never heard from her again.

This taught me a valuable lesson. I will now remove all stickers from items so that customers can't come in find unique things that they would have never known of and then go out and buy them on-line.

Everyone wants a bargain...but seriously....don't put shopkeepers out to have them lug furniture around to show you how to undermine their sale because you are a cheapster!

This is truly a pet peeve of mine. If I would have been there I would have refused to turn this heavy table and awkward stools upside down so I could lose a sale...it's SO annoying. emoticon

All I can say...is people have no couth these days. If you see something you like in a store don't insult the shopkeeper with your audacity...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

These lovely vintage Bergere chairs came in yesterday. They are in PERFECT condition and so comfortable! I also love the crushed velvet and color. In my research, I see a similar pair for $1,500 on Charish...I may list them on that site.

Time to fly....lots of things to do..stay sparky my friends!

Beautiful chairs! I would be interested in those if I were not trying to downsize as it is! I really enjoy getting to see what comes into your shop.

I think you should switch tactics and become an interior decorator, OR at the very least, a personal shopper! You have wonderful taste, great ideas, and can help others. How about a business where you help people who are coming down here to retire, or are leaving and need a company to pack things up and stage homes?

I have listed numerous pieces of furniture lately on both Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and have discovered that people instantly offer half of what you list it for sight unseen! Course they don’t bother showing up to actually complete the purchase. I don’t know how you do it but I’m glad you do.

Yes! At very first glance, I thought the first picture was a pair of African drums!

The trouble with the ease of online shopping now is that I hardly want to do any research in person at all. So much easier to get more information and more options online, while I have access to everything. So many price options, and yet... this way I miss out on having a house filled with interesting pieces. Just functional and all the same brown black color. Oh, how I dream of a good decorator with great taste!

I love those new chairs! And so frustrating about that woman, grrr. I can't believe that she would find that set cheaper online than in your store, though, and it would be just desserts if she came back and found that they've been sold. One of your comments reminded me of one of my first bosses, who used to quote a sailor he'd known during WW II: "He ain't got no couth." I still pull out that phrase every so often, along with another one that I seem to need all the time: "Always remember The Basic Principle: Nothing is simple if approached in the proper manner."

I'm so glad your business is starting to come alive again. Love the little bar set - wish I had a room I could use for something like that. My mom and dad had a lovely bar in the downstairs of their home. Apparently Lauriellen took a lot of the little accessories because when we were at her house last weekend I felt like I was back at my dad's bar All his things on a couple shelves above a little bar area in their downstairs!

It's such a shame that people are so thoughtless and downright rude. To ask for so much information and then to go out and buy on-line is just bad manners.

Hope you're having a good day off today! Very, very hot here again so I'm doing inside work, or maybe I'll just hang out! We'll see.

Glad your business is starting to pick up. Both and bar set and the chair are lovely, but neither to my style. I have a friend that was given a Paul Evans table, it has a swirly base and a thick glass top that is so heavy that is took for people to carry it. She looked it up, and it is valued at over 10K. and she really doesn't know what to do with it. So I looked it up, wow, that is some real expensive things. I am not so sure I could use something that pricey. lol

Bobbi, I read an article yesterday about a woman in FL who was conned by a guy she had met and out $52K, and her son $12K. It was very similar to your friend's story. Yikes! Great pics and lovely furniture. Hope the shopping season picks up for you.
